Attention to Reconstructive and Functional Urology

04 July 2018

ELUTS18 is a thematic educational meeting that is focused on Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and all related subspecialties of urology. Two sections of the EAU are closely involved in the meeting: the EAU Sections of Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgery (ESGURS) and of Female and Functional Urology (ESFFU).

The meeting will take place in Milan on 20-22 September. This marks the second edition of ELUTS, after a successful inaugural meeting in Berlin in 2017. Dr. Rados Djinovic, ESGURS Chairman, is looking forward to the meeting:

“For the second year in a row, ESGURS has its own scientific programme as part of ELUTS. We are joining forces with ESFFU with the goal of enabling urologists to participate in both parts of the scientific programme, since many of us are dealing with both male and female urological reconstruction.”

The reconstructive urology programme also features opportunities for new research to be presented. Abstract submission is open until July 16th for both posters and videos. ELUTS18 also features the free ESU-ESFFU Masterclass on Functional Urology, an intensive course for selected participants. Application is open until August 5th.

Hot topics

“ESGURS, as an EAU Section, covers a broad field, and we designed the programme to cover as much as possible of reconstruction,” Djinovic explains. “On the first day we will widely discuss on urethral pathology – starting with standards of care and also talking about troubleshooting when complications show themselves. Male incontinence will be thoroughly evaluated, too.”

The reconstructive surgical programme complements the general LUTS programme. Djinovic: “This year we decided to widely cover female urethra reconstruction and discuss diagnostics and the treatment options for strictures, diverticulum, urethral injuries and the female sphincter.”

“In panel discussion on female urethra pathology, participants will have the possibility to ask a question or present an interesting case to our experts. Peyronie’s disease will be discussed in the afternoon session, again with panel discussion.”

Semi-live Surgery

The reconstructive programme continues on September 22nd. Djinovic: “The second day is reserved for penile implant surgery and ‘semi-live” video presentations of interesting cases; we will also accept poster and video presentations, so all interested colleagues are welcome to present their work – awards will be given to the best presenters.”

“I want to wish everyone interested in reconstructive urology and LUTS a warm welcome, and I encourage everyone to submit their abstracts and to form a part the program, too.”
